Gunn Wit

Just a quick one to say thats to Dr Gunn for providing me with a bottle of his craftbrewed wheat! The beer was either a wit or a hefeweissen (I'm not sure, it has elements of both styles), and was clean drinking with a nice tart finish. My only criticism was that it lacked the anticipated intense carbonation, but then that didn't diminish from the beer.
Well done, and thanks!

Blanche de Bruges

My parents are currently visiting me having travelled all the way from Sydney, Asutralia. In atttempting to be the good son, I decided to take them for a weekend city break to Paris. Now my beer related experiences in Paris thus far have been far from interesting, mainly revolving around staple lagers such Kronenbourg and Stella with the odd Belgian thrown in for a bit of variety. And that brings me to the subject of this post - Blanche de Bruges (5.0% abv) which falls into the Belgian category.
Blanche de Bruges is brewed by the Bruges based Brouwerij de Gouden Boom and is a hazy yellow Witbier or 'White beer' styled ale. The beer has a dominant orange flavour which is common to the style, however I failed to detect any coriander flavours which are also common with the style. Over all the beer was refreshing and pleasant to drink. Website: http://www.degoudenboom.com

Svyturys Baltas

I have blogged for a while today so I will keep it short and sweet! Svyturys Wheat (5.2% abv) is a Lithuanian beer which won some kind of award from Tesco for its drinkablity? (Random). The beer style is similar to a Witbier and the brewery is owned by the Carlsberg group. I guess its another one worth checking out. It certainly would make an awesome beer for thirst quenching on a hot day! Website

Hoegaarden Witbier

Firstly I will apologise about the lack of posting lately. I have been a little ill and have had to slow down my consumption in order to recuperate! I did however start to feel a little bit better towards the end of last week and managed to get a pint of Hoegaarden Witbier into my system to accompany a delicious curry from 'Old Parr's Head' which I have now adopted as my local.
Hoegaarden is a witbier or 'white beer' from Belgium and is the iconic representation of the style. Although cloudy, the beer is spritzy and refreshing with an exteremely weak bittering but adequately seasoned by corriander and dried orange peel. As I am pressed for time I will not waffle on too much, Iwill however give a link to an interesting website! I am sure that I will have more than a few of these come summer!
