Fullers London Porter
Next up we walked past the old St Bartholomew church down a dark lane until we came to The Butchers Hook and Cleaver, appropriately named as its across the road from Smithfield’s markets. The Hook and Cleaver is a Fullers tied house in what I assume used to be a bank?? The main bar was full of city types drinking lager and cider and generally ignoring the excellent range of Fullers beers on tap. Keeping with our winter theme we ordered Fuller’s London Porter and this beer did not disappoint.
The beer is an extremely robust porter and tasted very fresh. I am going to be bold and say that this is the best example of the Fullers Porter that I have had. Robust, bitter with a smooth velvety roast taste I could drink this beer exclusively. As for all the trendy types in the pub, I really don’t think they know what they were missing out on!Labels: Ale, Fullers, Hook and Cleaver, Porter
