Australia vs the USA

I am pretty busy this week and do not have time to write long witty posts about controversial issues. What I will do though is give a teaser into an upcoming post. At Whole Foods, Kensington on Saturday I bought a couple of bottles of an old favourite of mine - Little Creatures pale ale. I have been told by many people that Little Creatures pale ale (LCPA) is almost identical to Sierra Nevada pale ale (SNPA). I disagree and although similar, I think they are totally different beasts. I plan to pick up a bottle of SNPA from Tesco during my weekly shop this evening so I can reveal the truth. That's right, a side by side comparison of the two beers. Stay tuned.

Are you going to get the missus to make it a blind tasting so it is fair and not culturally biased? I think that they are probably different only having had little creatures once, but make any beer cold enough and it all tatses the same as similar brews to me.

I may rope the missus into it, I am yet undecided. Cultural bias will be removed as I will be tasting blind, not knowing which beer is in which glass. I may even triangulate the test with a different hoppy beer such as Young's Special London Ale to test if I can pick the non IPA.

Very interesting doc. I'm going to look for this beer. Apparently it's very good. If I can find it, I'll review it.

Haven't you always been able to get this in Waitrose? I wasn't too excited by the Whole Foods beer selection myself.

Chuck in a bottle of Punk IPA and you've got an IPA party going on!

Rich, whole foods have two beer selections. One small selection on the ground floor near the wines. In the lower ground/basement floor they have a fridge mounted along one of the walls with maybe over 200 varieties of beer.

Mark, I should triangulate with the Brewdog offering. We all know the Aussie beer will come out trumps

I have been there a few times. Don't get me wrong: it's an extensive selection, but you're much better off taking a trip to Borough Market. I can't really see the point of Whole Foods in London really.

Top idea, Tim, I might do the same thing myself! If you want to really 'triangulate' the test, pour three glasses - one of the first and two of the second - and see if you can pick the odd one out. This can really focus your 'beer sensors' - or annoy the shit out of you if you can't pick it!

PS; I've heard the SNPA is a cracker! What do you think?

Yeah, Yeah ... it's still in my fridge.

Cheers
Prof. Pilsner

PPS; Go Aussie!!!

Haha! I want in on this now - I've got Punk and SNPA in the cupboard but no Little Creatures, I'll have to find me a bottle from somewhere.

I've got some Jaipur IPA and Goose Island too, so maybe I'll mix that in as well and make it a festival!

Update: I picked up the SNPA last night. I didn't worry about the Punk IPA. I think I will see how I go with my original comparison of LCPA vs SNPA first.
To piss people off even further, I think I will drink out of wine glasses!

Prof. Pils, I find SNPA to be good, but highy over rated.

That add is pretty random!
