An Irish Birthday
This year is the 250th birthday of Guinness. Normally when it's your birthday people buy you lots of gifts. Guinness being Irish (and hence 'slightly' backwards) are giving lots of gifts away. Last night a courier dropped off the pictured 4 pack of the black stuff. Apparently he had been chasing me between my flat and the office for three days trying to make the delivery. Surely the delivery must have cost more than the beer! Anyhow, I plan to enjoy these cans whilst watching Ireland destroy France in the Rugby tomorrow evening.Go raimh maith agat,

I'd guarantee you the delivery cost more than the beer. Diageo probably spend more on people like Splendid Communications Limited than they do on beer ingredients.
Though that's just the opinion of someone who is, it seems, 'slightly' backwards.
The 'slightly' backwards joke was tounge in cheek. I am a card carrying Irishman myself, although I am of the plastic kind!
BTW - I also see your point of Diageo spending mor eon marketing than on manufacturing. Here at work we have over 100 people selling products that only 1 or 2 people help deliver. The value is in the brand, and not the product. McDonalds are succesful with this business model also!
It certainly helps distract punters from how poor the product is, in both cases. But at least McDonald's is cheap: a pint of Guinness presumably costs you about as much as a pint of proper beer.
And as an Irishman you should be doing your patriotic duty and drinking beer from an actual Irish brewery while watching the rugby.
haha - 'real' irish beer is very hard to come by here! Although you can get Heineken that is made in Cork!
It's pretty hard to get here too :)
Marks & Spencer Irish Stout is your best bet. A bit pricey, but very nice. Or you could nip over to the Covent Garden Porterhouse, at your own risk.
At least Stonch, bless his cotton socks, got some interesting African Guinness. I on the other hand, got shite all.
Foreign or not all free beer tastes good!
