After the tents closed we powered back to the campsite, but joined the back packing masses around the Löwenbräu vending machines for a beer to dull the cold and help us get to sleep - not that we were not tanked up to the hilt anyway! Löwenbräu Original (5.2% abv) is a helles style lager that tasted pretty ordinary in light of the malty 'fest beers we had been drinking all evening. But I know from past experince that it is an excellent beer. I have always considered Löwenbräu as the lesser of Munich's breweries, mainly as they have beer halls in many capital cities and teh beer is distributed/brewed under licence around the world by SABmiller. But compared to your average megaswill, its a winner.

Yeah, Löwenbräu's owners definitely did the brand no favours with the sub-par version brewed under licence for the UK until a few years ago.
Brewing under licence is interesting as sometimes it leads to better beers, sometimes worse. For example, Stella is a rubbish beer here in the UK, and even in Belgium its crap. In Australia, the BuL stuff is awesome, and is a great modern bohemium pilsner style beer. You may not be aware, but Baron's brewing (an Australian micro) will be brewing 60000L of black wattle seed ale at the Marston's brewery for the Wetherspoons beer festival. I hope this works out ok and is better than the usual Marston's crap.
Yeah, I had the original of this and thought it pretty decent. I'm not sure what the wattle seed does, though.
I have had it fresh - a few years ago now, and I found that the wattle seed imparted a nutty taste, you could definetely smell the aroma. I personally think its more of a gimmick.
did you see the lion?
The lion was the best thing about that tent. "Mmmmm.... Löwenbrääääuuu!"
yeah, teh Lion Rocks. It even says "Loove en brow" (thats phonetic for Lowenbrau) before it roars!
