Windhoek Lager

Windhoek Lager (4% abv) is an all malt Pilsner which is available pretty much exclusively in Namibia and South Africa. I was lucky enough to track some down (ok, I stumbled upon it purely by accident) in a posh Sth African restaurant in Putney.
The beer is impressive and has a nice grassy hop character with a subtle honey like malt sweetness in it's character. It reminded me of Australian premium beers like James Boag Premium and Cascade Premium. Just the thing you need to quaff after shooting game or escaping a pursuing lion! Actually jokes aside, I enjoyed this with my entrée of Boerewors (Wild Boar Sausages). Windhoek is brewed by Namibia Breweries.

Agree that the 'Hook' leaves the Castle in its wake. I've hosted beer dinners in restaurants for years and have had good response to it as a starter beer. See if you can confirm for me the correct pronounciation. I've had 'experts' (wankers) call it Wind-Hoke, Wined-dook and Wind-Hook but an old Springbok told me it goes 'Vint-Hook' and I have believed him ever since.

Hi Prof Pils,
I believe its pronounced either wind-hook or vind-hook, as the staff called it both. The Afrikaan's guy usd the Germanic/Dutch dialect, whilst the female waitress used the anglasised dialect. Either way I think is ok.

Cheers Tim,
I never want to be beer snobby or anything, I just reckon it's best to call a beer by the name the brewer expects and it's good to know what that is! My other favourite party trick is to get people to try to pronounce the Polish brew 'Zywiec' - apart from Polish people, I have not had anyone come close yet!
Cheers
